Despite a 2021 Supreme Court ruling which mandates the appointment of special educators in government schools, Telangana is yet to have them onboard. The state sanctioned about 1,523 posts for this role in August this year. However, hiring is nowhere in sight, say special educators.Presently, Bhavitha centres set up at mandal level under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyaan scheme caters to special need kids, and these centres have 250 vacancies. Meanwhile, parents say that the education department should implement the mandates of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the supreme court ruling.
